Robert O. “Ray” Scarbrough
The custodian at Berclair Baptist Church Ray heard for the first time that he could be saved when a friend David Buckles invited him to visit Memphis Baptist Temple on Macon Rd., “because there are lots of girls there.” According to Ray, he found something better than girls when he let Jesus come into his heart. He soon led another friend Winfred White to Christ. In 1975, God called Ray to became houseparent and maintenance engineer at the Baptist Children's Village, Jackson, MS. After that, he served as custodian at Whitten Memorial Baptist Church. In 1986, on a Mission trip with Ardmore Baptist Church to Michigan, to build a church, Ray's faith was strengthened when four seemingly insurmountable problems were miraculously solved by God. Although he lost his job by making the trip, Ray was hired as custodian at Ardmore. His next assignment was to Berclair Baptist Church where he has worked for ten years. Ray considers his job to be a mission. The House of Worship must be maintained. |
